To the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary: Honor and Glory ForeverAmen!
Hi, Everyone! Welcome to St. Michael and to Sts. Peter and Paul Mission churches on
the North Shore of Oahu! Thank you for coming and joining our worshipping community
as we gather together to worship, praise, and glorify God on this beautiful day, the Twenty-
sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time.
It is so wonderful that God shows us His merciful love and forgiveness as he pardons
sinners who had first said no to God and now through their repentance are saying yes to
Gods invitation to be with Him forever. Despite the obstinateness of their religious leaders
who should have known better but prefer to remain adamant in their own self-righteousness.
All the knowledge of laws and the right way to live and do things cannot take the place of true
conversion of the heart. Do we really believe in God or do we indulge in our own self-worth? Lets think of
the Archangel Lucifer and his fall from Heaven and recall the saying: Vanity of vanities. What profit has
man to gain the whole world - his effort toward vain glory - and lose his own soul? (Matthew 16:26).
Solomon was the richest man in the world, and he said that you can have all that but if you do not have God
in your life, it is best you have never been born.
Someone once said: When you think of Islam, you think of the crescent. When you think of Judaism, you
think of the star of David. When you think of Christianity, you think of the cross. The Christians of Syria,
Iraq, and Gaza are truly bearing witness to this in their lives today. They have lost everything including, for
many - the loss of their lives! Lets continue to pray for them.
Speaking of giving, I wish to thank so many of our parishioners and visitors who gave wondrously to Cath-
olic Social Services this past Sunday. It is so sad though when I see our ushers (God bless them all) going past
those with nothing to share. I can empathize but still its so sad. Not even a quarter or a dime that can go a
long way in helping others in need.
It only reminds me that our plastic container in which I was putting my loose pocket change and hoping
others would follow suit has disappeared. Someone has taken the entire container from our church. I guess
they needed it badly. Oh, well.
Years ago while on the police force, I remember someone quoting me: God help those who help
themselves? Yeah, I said, but theres another saying: God help those who get caught helping
themselves!
Please remember in your prayers the soul of Father James Anguay, ss.cc., who passed away suddenly this
past week. Father used to help on weekends in Waialua/Waimea Bay when Father Felix was your pastor.
Unfortunately, he was involved in a horrific automobile accident on Kaukonahua Road and never really
recovered from his injuries. Fathers funeral service is planned for Wednesday, October 15th, at St. Patrick
Church at 10:30AM. Visitation begins at 9:30AM. May Father James soul and the souls of all our loved
ones rest in peace. Father Chris Keahi, ss.cc.

MASS EXPLAINED HIGHLIGHTS
A very informative session given by
Deacon Modesto Cordero a week ago
explaining some procedures still being used
and procedures no longer done.
Sign of the cross (only 3 times): when
entering the church, before the Gospel
(forehead, lips, and chest), and blessing
before dismissal.
Genuflecting: done two times (when
entering with sign of the cross or before
seating at the pew and when leaving the
pew). Not necessary to genuflect again
when in front of the altar. If unable to
genuflect, then you may bow from the
waist down.
If unable to kneel during the Eucharistic
Prayer, sit at the edge of the pew. (Dont
make yourself comfortable by leaning
back).
While reciting the Lords Prayer many
churches no longer hold hands because
of illness or other personal reasons.
Place your hands in prayer while reciting
the Lords Prayer. Give sign of peace to
the person to your left and to your right
and around you.
DONATIONS NEEDED
Once again, the Outreach Ministry is asking for
donations of hygiene products, toothpaste/toothbrush,
bath soap/body wash, shampoo/conditioner, etc.
Please drop into the basket at the church entrance
or you may bring these items to the church office.
