Description of
this
intervention
Sound Partners is a phonics-based program that enables teachers and reading tutors
to help struggling readers better their comprehension as well as their understanding
of letter-sound correspondences, phoneme blending, decoding and encoding
phonetically regular words as well as reading irregular high-frequency words. This
program uses lessons that are already written for the teacher/tutor and it also uses a
reading series that establishes oral reading practices.
How would you
use this in the
classroom?
I would use this program as an after-school comprehension in reading enforcement.
After examining students progress in reading and comprehension, I would be better
able to assess who this program may work for. This would be used as a supplemental
program for students that need it.
How could this
support your
struggling
readers?
This program can be matched to fit each students reading skills. The teacher can
focus on what each student needs and profile what that specific student needs. Since
I would use this as a supplemental program after school, this would be a little easier
to tweak instead of having to do this as a whole-group lesson. Students will also be
able to practice recall as they will use prior knowledge and terms/words they are
already familiar with. I would use the mastery tests within the program to gauge
how students progress with their reading comprehension through this oral based
program.
