Reducing Turn

Around Time
B14102~B14109
BM-B, XLRI
Lets Get Inspired First
Whats Turnaround Time?
Before an airplane can make another trip, it must
remain at the gate to allow passengers to
disembark, have cargo and baggage unloaded,
have the airplane serviced, cargo and baggage
loaded, and board passengers for the next trip.

Averaged over a number of trips, this time at the
gate is defined as average turn-time.
What is the Fuss all about?
Planes standing idle cost about $40/minute.
On an average, an airline with 6 domestic flights
per day loses around $2400 standing idle.
That extrapolates to an Opportunity cost of
$720,000 over 300 days
