American History Walk

The purpose of this unit is to help students access
information regarding American History. Not only will
students be presented with history about America
they will also get to view actual photos and
reenactment videos about a particular part of history.
This unit will also give students the opportunity to
take a virtual field trip to the place they are studying.
This idea was developed because our countrys
history can be a fun and exciting thing to learn.
Purpose and Rationale
The activities in this web are geared for junior high
students but can be used for younger students if
guided by an adult. Older students can use this web
as a refresher for American History.
Learners
The ability to navigate web pages
The ability to read and record information
The ability to take recorded information and write a
one page paper.
Prerequisites
The goal of this unit is to read and watch information
pertaining to Americas history and be able to
translate that into their own words. The student will
accomplish the following
Read information
Identify what is important
Write in their own words
Watch videos and view pictures
Virtually visit the current location of study

Educational Goals and Objectives
This unit includes a few of the following historical
moments from 1607 1865:
Jamestown, the first colony
French and Indian Wars
Declaration of Independence
Mexican War
The Wild West
The Civil War
Lincoln Assassinated
Content
This unit will consist of three paths that will be
followed in order to learn the material presented.
Path One: Read and take notes then write about the
person or place presented.
Path Two: Watch a video or take a look at pictures
about the person or place presented. Fill in worksheet
that goes along with video or photos.
Path Three: Go on a virtual field trip and learn about
what is happening now in the place presented or learn
about how the person in history is remembered now.
Take notes and write about what you have learned.
Instructional Plan
The teacher will use a rubric to assess the activities in
this unit.
