Why is the War mentioned in #ueenie? &lass discussion 2 using prior knowledge from previous lessons on World War 2, why is the War important in the story of #ueenie? 1fter students discuss for a 13 minute period, guide the discussion towards other community wide impacts of the War on towns, cities and the nation as a whole. 4sing the websites on the board and books available at the front of the classroom, research the War and its impact on 1ustralia. -ighlight to students the importance of clear concise writing that highlights the key points and details of their research. %mphasise the important of presenting their information neatly using appropriate language and writing styles on the butchers paper. *articularly focus on important information such as the wars impact on families, employment, food supply, animals, the economy etc. 1sk groups to investigate in either their poster or the summary why in the book it says 5visiting a 6oo was a happy time amongst the sadness of war7. 1llow students "3 minutes for students to research 8nd interesting information and then publish. 9emind students about proof reading, spelling, and grammar. Students may want to write up a summary of the information on their butchers paper for their presentation to the class. -ave each group one at a time come out the front of the class and share what they have learnt about the War and more importantly its impact on 1ustralia. Students in other groups can be adding this information to their summary and their notes. When each group as presented, use the remaining time before recess to discuss how does knowing this information about the War and how it a0ected 1ustralians help to understand the setting of the book? :he butchers paper can be hung around the room and students individual summaries can be collected for marking.
