The purpose of the article Saudi Arabias Freedom Riders is to inform.
The author, Neil
Macfarquhar, informs his audience on the ban on women driving in Saudi Arabia and the efforts of many to lift the ban. One woman in Saudi Arabia is considered a revolutionary for taking a seat behind the wheel. Her defiance is part of a nationwide right-to-drive campaign that involved more than 40 women taking to the road to protest the fact that Saudi women are not allowed to drive (Macfarquhar 10). Even though womens rights are severely limited women in Saudi Arabia are demanding the right to drive. Macfarquhar goes on to explain the punishments faced by those who defy Saudi Arabias ban. However, many women are not backing down and continue to fight for their right to drive.
