Strategy Name Strategy #_6__

Quick Write

Brief Description (in your own words):
A quick write is timed writing that can be done for ten or fifteen minutes in the beginning or
end of class. Students write for the whole time they dont stop writing until the end of the time.
It can be used in different ways and students are able to write whatever comes to mind and is
usually used with a prompt.

How you plan to use this strategy in your Practicum, Internship, Student Teaching, or in your
classroom:
I would use this strategy in my practicum when I am going over a health unit as part of my
curriculum. When I am first introducing the health unit I would have my students write for ten
or fifteen and have them write everything about health or what they do to be healthy. After the
time is up I would have some students volunteer to share what they know or what they do be
healthy and have a quick class discussion after the quick write and then introduce the first topic
of the health unit. I would use a quick write at the end of the unit again and change to the
prompt to what they would do now to be healthy and if they learned anything new about
health.
