INTRODUCTION TO TECHNICAL THEATER

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This class is an introductory course in the areas of technical
theater. Stage terminology, production organization and management, theater architecture,
stage equipment, make up, basic scenic design, scene shop rules and safety, theatre history and
stage scenery construction are areas of study. This class is required if the student desires to be
in Advance Technical Theatre.

CLASS PREPARTION: Every student is expected to be in class on time and ready to learn.
Students will need a notebook, pen or pencil, handouts and other materials. When working in
the scene shop, students will need gloves.

GRADING: The grade is based on quizzes, assignments and tests. There is a shop safety test
which all students must pass with 100% before being allowed to enter the scene shop to work.
Since many tests, quizzes and assignments are hands on late work cannot be tolerated.
Students will receive three (3) points a day for attending and participating in class discussions,
two (2) points will be given for a tardy and one (1) point for an absence. These points make up
a portion of the term grade. There is no extra credit for this class. The grades will be based on
the following scale:
93-100 = A 90-92 = A- 86-89 = B+ 83-85 = B 80-82= B- 76-79= C+ 73-75= C
70-72= C- 66-69= D+ 63-65= D 60-62= D- 59 and below = F

CLASS EXPECTATIONS AND BEHAVIOR: Students are expected to comply with all
behavior policies of Desert Hills High School and the Washington County School District. The
tardy and attendance policy of this class will follow those outlined by school and district policy.
Students are expected to refrain from misuse of language, property and equipment. Respect of
all involved in the class is expected.
