M. 87108 John(14) David and Beveily Bayiess, Missionaries Church growth of 10, 11, 24 per cent per year is possible. These were the results of Brazilian leaders* work in three recent years, in the churches called Churches of Christ in the area of Bel6m, the major city of north Brazil. Thesechurches grew 15 per cent in the first half of 1984, and had 685 members in sixteen congregations. Fourteen of them are led by their own men. Many are being trained in practical evangelism and leadership, putting what they are taught into practice as they are taught. Imitation is the basic principle (II Tim. 2:2), and love is the basicmotive (John 15:10). Only three or four of these leaders receive any pay from the churches, and this came after years of demonstrating ability (I Tim. 5:17). During much of 1984 David taught eight leaders of six congregations, as well as participating directly in evangelism. Beverly teaches principles of teaching in two churches, as well as a ladies' Sunday School class, participates in evangelism with them, and teaches a ladies* group. David directs a print shop, producing teaching materials for the churches and their leaders. John is a freshman in Amazon Valley Academy, and Joanne is in her second year at Ozark Bible College. The Baylessescelebrated twenty-five years of work in Brazil in 1984. They hope for at least that many more. Many medical exams show only good health, for which they thank God daily. The churches have been averaging 17 per cent growth for the last four years, over three times the average of churches in Latin America, for which they also thank God and encourage the Brazilian leaders. Five new churches have begun in the past five years, and two others have joined their fellowship, making the present number of sixteen. October, 1984 Printed in Brazil
