Congressman Richard E. Neal, Mayor Domenic Sarno, Patrick Sullivan, Executive Director, Parks, Buildings and Recreation Management, and Judith Matt, President, Spirit of Springfield, will announce a $i.29 million grant tomorrow to build the Bright Nights Storage Barn and Technical Skills Training Facility in Forest Park. The federal funds, awarded by the U.S. Economic Development Agency, will help the City of Springfield construct a new facility to replace an out-of-date wooden structure built in the 197o's. The building will store equipment used in the "Bright Nights" festival, provide park staff with a workshop area and two new technical training classrooms for work development and instruction. The project will also include improved parking and restroom facilities available to those using the clay and
hard top tennis courts. The new fac;ade will be brick to resemble other historic brick structures throughout the park. The city will provide $116,253 in matching funds and the Spirit of Springfield will contribute approximately $185,353.
