SAP Application Interface Framework (AIF) is a structured approach to implement interfaces using
SAP PI as middle-ware. SAP AIF is an add on to SAP ECC which provides framework to design,
develop and implement interfaces enforcing best practices and companys own standards. SAP AIF
provides standard and customizable mode of interface monitoring, error handling and alerts,
notification management.
Architecture Overview
SAP AIF uses SAP PI as middleware and operates on SAP backend system i.e. SAP ECC. SAP PI
sends data to SAP system where SAP Application Interface Framework is located. Data is sent to a
proxy on SAP Application Server which invokes the proxy method to call SAP AIF. SAP AIF
handles and processes the data using inbound interfaces as well as can triggers data to SAP PI via
outbound interfaces.
