Readers Workshop
Next week we will begin a unit of study
that tackles the tricky parts of
reading! We will be learning strategies
for figuring words that we get stuck on
while all the while remembering and
understanding what we are reading.

Wri ters Workshop
We will be launching our Personal
Narrative unit next week. We will start
with reading several mentor texts to
begin to understand what kind of writing
decisions we will have to make in order
to develop a great personal narrative.
One of our favorite mentor text is
Saturday and Teacakes by Lester
Laminack. We will learn about telling
true stories that have happened to us,
narrative structure (beginning,
middle,end), adding details, focussing on
a small moment, spacing, word wall
spelling and more!

Math
This week in math

addition with 10 pennies to come up
with different ways to make 10.
We also learned about the 10

numbers on a ten frame using quick
hands.
! 2.4 - We learned that a unit box is
often used as a reminder of the
unit to which a number refers. We
also reviewed the calculator.
! 2.5/2.6 - We practiced telling time
to the hour on an analog clock. We
also learned that when the minute

Air - a study in how things move. We
watched a movie about parachutes and
learned how air resistance helps a
parachute move slowly through the sky.
We made parachutes and we cant wait
to test the parachutes out on the
playground on Monday! We rewrote the
poem ,Where does the Wind Go? by
Marcia Vaughan, using our own ideas.
Everyone loves the classic story Cloudy
with A Chance of Meatball! We had fun
created a raindrop with our own rain
storm. Ask your child what was raining
in their picture.
