Weekly Highlights

Science
Many our lima bean
seeds in plastic bags
have germinated
(started to grow)! The
kiddos have enjoyed
observing the daily
changes. On Tuesday
we planted carrot and
radish seeds in cups, so
that we could more
readily observe the
changes. In two weeks,
we will head out to the
garden to plant a variety
of crops!
Students learned the
name of plant parts
(roots, stem, leaves,
flower, and fruit) and the
purpose they serve for
the plant.
Health
Our counselor, Kristie
Stevens, taught students
about reading body
language and facial
expression to determine
someones emotion.

Reading/Writing
We continued our Lois
Ehlert Author Study.
Students listened to Planting
a Rainbow and wrote a
how to piece: how to
plant a seed. They also
wrote a how to after
listening to Growing
Vegetable Soup: how to
make vegetable soup. Both
pieces of writing required
them to sequence 4 steps to
explain how to do both
tasks. Finally, they
recorded their literature
responses to Nuts to You in
their Read Aloud Book Club
Journals.

Students word work
included brainstorming,
reading, and writing words
with the /ot/ and /ot/
chunks.

Math Corner
Students were assessed
on the names and
attributes of solid (3
dimensional) shapes.
