Objective:
You will be able to describe how much money will be earned per week as a first time employee,
earning minimum wage.

starting at minimum wage, and tax responsibilities?

Directions:

1. Visit Illinois Minimum Wage Law to research starting pay in Illinois.
2. Contact manger at Jewel-Osco for a mock schedule of a 20-30 hour workweek. (He has
agreed to help our classroom with this assignment. Each student will receive a different
schedule.)
3. Visit Salary Paycheck Calculator to figure out state and federal withholdings.
4. Write out your speech in document form in Microsoft Word, located on the classroom
computer.
5. Practice your speech for timing and fluidity by recording yourself on the iPad Voice
Memo App
6. Practice your speech in front of a small group to prepare for speaking in front of the
entire class.

Assessment:
Prepare a 3-minute speech to present in front of the entire class. There will be a Question and
Answer session following the speech. You are required to answer three questions, two from
peers, and one from instructor.
You will receive up to 25 points for each of the following: written speech, effective research,
speech presentation, and Question and Answer session.

2. Visit supplied resource list, and determine a retail price for a designer purse.
3. Create a pie chart, breaking down costs involved.
4. Create a PowerPoint Presentation in Microsoft Office PowerPoint, located on the
classroom computer with 12-15 slides that include the breakdown of cost for the designer
purse.
5. Include multimedia elements in the presentation, i.e. animation, voice over, videos, etc.
Be sure to include the pie chart from above and be creative.
