8:45-10:00 Planned Small Group Activities
During choice time, the children choose to play in a variety of centers, engage in project work, and participate in small group lessons. Center choices include: Art, dramatic play, science, math, blocks, computer, writing, or light table. Children may also work in the studio at this time. -The dramatic play area has been a really popular center lately. The children are developing in-depth house play schemes. A lot of this play involves caring for the babies, including dressing them and feeding them. Ill be adding some materials to this center this week as well as involving myself in this play in order to deepen their play and create spontaneous learning opportunities. -We will continue our discussions about the blender at morning meeting. We may need someone to lend us their blender! -Last week, we had a small group interested in rolling a circular wooden piece from a construction set. I tried to capture this interest by pairing it with some small ramps. There was a lot of excitement with this. I saw some children focusing and working really hard with these materials. This week, I will provide some new materials for working with ramps. Looking forward to seeing what happens! -We will continue to work on our self-portraits. I will work with small groups (1-2 children) for this activity. -I will continue working on a baseline assessment to gain a more clear understanding of what knowledge each child is entering school with. This will help to inform my practice over the coming months. I will work with children one-on-one for short periods of time for this.
