Isol at ed Li st eni ng Isol at ed Li st eni ng

For This activity, we will try to hone in on specific components of the performance
rather than the performance as a whole or finished product:

What instrument(s) was it played by? (Voice is an instrument too!)
Is this appropriate for the genre/style of the song, if so , what does it add?

In what style was it performed? Were there any special techniques used? (i.e. breathy
voice, distorted guitar, screaming vocals etc)

Does it stay in this style the entire time? How does it change?
Is it an appropriate style for the genre/type of performance?

Was it equally/more/less prominent than other components of the performance?

How did the composer make sure it was more enhanced than other parts?
Or
How was it covered up by other components?

Were any of the musical fundamentals especially prominent? (i.e. extreme range, weird
rhythm, extreme tempo, intermittent dissonance etc. )

Could it function independently? i.e. if you hear it without the rest of the performance
would it sound good or like it was missing something?

Was there anything you have never heard before?

Can you tap your foot or dance to it?

Is it repetitive (chord prog? Riff?) ? Constantly Changing?
