A federal regulatory commission for robotics could be the next FTC:
According to a report for the Brookings Institute, there might be a formation of a new
government agency called the Federal Robotics Commission (FRC), (Gagliordi, Natalie). Within
the report, Ryan Calo, an assistant professor at the University Of Washington School Of Law,
posits that innovation within the robotics industry could very well lead to the establishment of
a government entity responsible of handling the complex legal and regulatory environment that
surround artificial intelligence (Gagliordi, Natalie). Professor Calo hypothesized that the Federal
Robotics Commission (FRC) could potentially channel funds into robotics research, advise other
agencies like the Department of Transport (DOT) on matters including driverless cars and advice
lawmakers on robotics law and policy (Gagliordi, Natalie).
NASA tech finds disaster survivors
QUOINAH 2
NASA researchers have developed an innovative device that is capable of picking up subtle
movements in debris that can be up to 40 feet deep (Kelly, Heather). The tool known as FINDER
(Finding Individuals for Disaster and Emergency Response) was developed at NASAs Propulsion
Laboratory to help rescue crews find survivors quickly in a major disaster (Kelly, Heather). The
device is said to take about five minutes to learn and is set up in few minutes (Kelly, Heather). It
fits into a case small enough to carry on a plane. Press the search button and 30 seconds later
a web page appears on the FINDER laptop, which shows how many heartbeats its found in a
100 foot radius (Kelly, Heather).
NASA gives key space taxi contracts to SpaceX and Boeing
In another NASA innovation, NASA has announced that it is contracting SpaceX and
Boeing Co. to build the spacecraft that will ferry astronauts from Cape Canaveral Air Force
Station in Florida to the International Space Station and back (Gaudin, Sharon). According to
NASA Administrator Charlie Bolden This sets the stage for the most ambitious and exiting
chapter of human space flight (Gaudin, Sharon). However, NASA has set a deadline of
launching astronauts from American soil by 2017 (Gaudin, Sharon).

Two scholarly journal articles on the same topic from the CCBC library database
1. What will NASAs $6.8 billion space taxi contracts really buy; Key words used to find
the article ( Emerging Technology- Space Exploration) Database: The Christian
Science Monitor
2. NASA tech finds disaster survivor; Database: Opposing Viewpoints in Context
Finding the two articles in the online library of CCBC is difficult than doing so on other
websites like ZDNet which is a bit faster and direct. Even though both timely are timely but
other websites CNN/ technology has more the other.
