Help Give a Voice to Limited-English Proficient/Non-English Proficient and Deaf/Hard of

Hearing Community Members in DC ($100 Honorarium)

A group of lawyers called the DC Consortium of Legal Services Providers is conducting an
important study to figure out the needs of the community. The Consortium's mission is to
coordinate the delivery, expand the availability, and improve the quality of legal services and
advocacy for low-income and disadvantaged people in the District of Columbia.

It is vital that limited-English proficient/non-English proficient and Deaf/Hard of Hearing
individuals have a chance to be heard in this study. Therefore, we are looking for volunteers who
are able to communicate in the following languages:

Spanish
Amharic
Mandarin
Korean
Vietnamese
French
American Sign Language

As a volunteer, you would administer surveys in one of the languages above. The surveys would
be written in the language you choose (in English for those who communicate using American
Sign Language). You would work through the survey with DC residents, who speak the language
that you select and who earn less than 200% of the federal poverty level, and write down their
responses. Each survey takes about 20 minutes to administer. You would be responsible for
finding the survey participants.

If you complete 20 surveys, you will be paid a $100 honorarium.

Taking part in this project will provide a greater understanding of unmet legal needs and play a
key role in shaping the delivery of legal service in the District of Columbia. In order to
volunteer, you will need to attend a one hour training/practice session. The training will take
place at Catholic University, which is at the Brookland Metro station on the red line of the
Metro. You only need to attend the training once, although it is being offered on both Saturday,
October 11 at 1PM and on Tuesday, October 14 at 6PM.

Please RSVP for a training by contacting Faith Mullen at Catholic University at
MULLEN@law.edu by October 8. Please let Ms. Mullen know which language you will be
using to administer the survey. If you have any questions about this project, you may contact Ms.
Mullen by email.

Thank you!
