Thomas Edison Script

Why? This was something I always wanted to know about, about everything. If
something nearby happened I just wanted to know why. I was born on the 11
th
of
February in 1847. My name is Thomas Alva Edison; you may know me for my
inventions such as the Incandescent Light Bulb, the phonograph. Youd think Id
be at school for a while, but no. I left school at 12 years old and worked as a
candy butcher then at the age of 15 I was an apprentice at a telegraph office. But
lets get to the story of my Incandescent light bulb. Now I believe that I have not
failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work. This is true for this
invention. I spent a lot of time picking different metals for this to work. I started
my work in 1878 for a good light. I wanted to make a light better than the arc
lamps. It was a race to make the better light for homes and offices. I needed
money to pay for the experiments so I had to tell them I was close to developing
this practical and good light. There were a few problems with it. This book by
Nicholas Nirgiotis sort of describes how I showed it off to the media but I made it
even more extravagant. I needed the money, the more the better. Though I did
turn it off before the platinum filament did turn off, I got what I wanted and
needed. This started the true process of making this light work. Thank God they
fell for this development. New ideas came up here and there and I implemented
them into the experiments. All I wanted to ever do in my life was to make
invention. My main purpose in life is to make enough money to create ever
more inventions.... The dove is my emblem.... I want to save and advance human
life, not destroy it.... I am proud of the fact that I have never invented weapons to
kill... Some of the context behind my inventions was the time of America where
it was moving into more of an industrial age where my inventions could get me
lots of money. I also made in 1874 the quadruplex telegraph with the ability to
send messages in two different directions. My first wife, Mary Stillwell, died, at
the age of 21. I was met with many women offering sympathy for my loss but
there was one woman who caught my eye, Mina Miller. She was a lot more
assertive than Mary and she took care of the kids, Madeline, Charles and
Theodore.
