News/Overview: The C-SPAN bus is an interactive, multi-media learning center that
brings C-SPANs coverage of public affairs to communities nationwide and teaches students, teachers and the public how to follow Washington Your Way. Aboard the C-SPAN Bus, visitors will learn about C-SPANs programming and resources through HD-TVs, touch screen computers, laptops, and mobile devices.
Place/Time: The C-SPAN bus will be parked in front of the Cole Student Activities Building from 7:30 a.m.2 p.m. on Oct. 7. Dr. Loh will be interviewed on the bus from 9-10 a.m., and the bus will be open to the public from 11 a.m. 1 p.m.
Strategy/Goal: 1. Connect and inform politically active students about C-SPANs programming and resources by inviting them on the bus and encouraging their interaction with the vehicles education technology.
2. Use social media to increase awareness and engage students about the midterm elections, potential C-SPAN internship/career opportunities, and public policy resources available through C-SPAN.
3. Create a setting of symbiotic promotion for C-SPAN and the University of Maryland to educate students about the 2014 mid-term elections and public policy journalism.
Target Audiences: 1. Current UMD students, specifically those involved in Student Government or who are political science, journalism, communication, education or public policy majors. 2. Faculty 3. Staff
Key Messages: The C-SPAN bus will provide an interactive learning experience for students, teachers and the public on media literacy best practices and how to stay informed about national issues during important political times.
Specific: Students studying political science or journalism are often on the lookout for job and internship opportunities. The C-SPAN bus will be equipped with representatives who can speak to students about their interests and inform them on the many positions C-SPAN has to offer.
