Population Growth of a Jalapeo Pepper

1. How many seeds were in your initial pepper? This represents the first generation. 16
2. How many plants were alive in your pepper population after only 5 generations? 1048576
3. Describe your graph. Kind of J shaped
4. Make a list of five environmental factors that might limit natural or wild populations (not necessarily
pepper plant or human populations).
Climate change, Drought, Soil fertility, Disease, Predators
5. If a population were subjected to some of these environmental factors for a considerable length of
time, would you expect to see any changes in the population? Based on the information provided
above, explain your answer. BE SPECIFIC which factors would cause which changes?
Predators and disease would naturally keep the population in check by killing some of the plants.
Drought would undoubtedly kill some of them as well leaving only the toughest of plants alive, if any at
all. How fertile the soil is would affect how many peppers the plant could produce and whether or not
the plant even survived. Changes in the climate would also have an effect on whether or not the plants
would be able to grow and produce offspring.
