People have diverse perceptions about peace. However, the most
agreed definition of peace is :
Peace is an occurrence of harmony characterized by the lack of
violence, conflict behaviours and the freedom from fear of
violence. Commonly understood as the absence of hostility and
retribution, peace also suggests sincere attempts at reconciliation
One connotation of the word Islam is peace. Similarly one of the 99 names of God
is As-salaam this means the the source of peace ,this empathises that Islam
preaches about peace. One of the most famous quotation of the prophet is Hate
your enemy mildly, for he may become your friend one day'. Moreover, Muslims
greet each other with salaam this means peace be upon you. Furthermore,
Islam also means total submission to God (Allah). This cannot be accomplished
without total rejection of violence, and a personal attitude and alignment toward
peace.
Many Christians call Jesus of Nazareth the "Prince of Peace", and see him as a
messiah (saviour or deliverer), the "Christ", who manifested as the Son of
God on Earth to establish God's Kingdom of Peace, wherein persons,
societies, and all of Creation are to be healed of evil. Once Jesus said Love
your enemies, and pray for them
The Holy Prophet of Islam (saw). Quote taken from the QURAN which further
portrays and emphasis the concept of peace,'And if two parties of believers fight
against each other, make peace between them; then if after that one of them
transgresses against the other, fight the party that transgresses until it returns to
the command of Allah. Then if it returns, make peace between them with equity,
and act justly. Verily, Allah loves the just.
