the holiday.
2. Direct Instruction (I DO): T defines portrait and S identify several examples of

3. Guided Practice (We DO): T & S together practice tracing drawing with black
glue.
4. Independent Practice (You DO): S work on their own to finish tracing picture
with black glue.
5. Lesson Closure: S review facts about Day of the Dead celebrations aloud.

1. Intro: Today we will learn to make large paper flowers to go with our marigolds
for our global awareness celebration!
2. Direct Instruction (I DO): Review: T explains Texture. S identify how several
objects feel. T demonstrates how to curl paper petals around a pencil and glue
them down to create texture.
3. Guided Practice (We DO): T & S pick up pencil and petal T&S practice curling a
paper petal together. T & S practice gluing paper petals to flower together.
4. Independent Practice (You DO): S work on their own to curl and glue remaining
petals to base.

5. Lesson Closure: Class reviews facts about the day of the dead celebration

project and explains that today we will begin to add color to our portrait.
2. Direct Instruction (I DO): T demos how to use oil pastels to color in shapes and
how to blend two colors together.
3. Guided Practice (We DO): T & S together practice using oil pastels to color in
shapes.
4. Independent Practice (You DO): S work on their own to finish coloring in shapes.
T demos how to paint skeleton, S work on their own to paint skeleton
5. Lesson Closure: S walk around the room and look at everyone elses beautiful
artwork!

by bunching it around a pencil.

together. T demos how to make a small dot of glue and place tissue on the dot of
glue. T&S practice making a small dot of glue together. T & S practice bunching
and attaching tissue to glue dot.
4. Independent Practice (You DO): S continue to attach tissue to glue on their own.
5. Lesson Closure: S review types of texture.

tissue paper.

1. Intro:. T introduces papel picado as a form of Mexican folk art; S review patterns
and geometric shapes
2. Direct Instruction (I DO): T demonstrates how to create patterns by first folding
tissue paper and then cutting half shapes out of tissue paper
3. Guided Practice (We DO) T&S work together to fold their tissue paper.
4. Independent Practice (You DO): S work independently to cut patterns into their
paper. S work independently to create additional pieces of papel picado

5. Lesson Closure: S review the country where papel picado is mainly made and talk
about its uses. S share their artwork with the class and identify the patterns they
created.
