Haiku can also be called nature or seasonal
haiku.

Haiku is usually written in
the present tense and
focuses on nature (seasons).
Haiku poems are Japanese and contain only 3
lines.

The poems are used to paint a picture in the
readers mind.

Each line has a certain number of syllables.
Write this in your book.

Definition 1
An unrhymed Japanese verse consisting of three
unrhymed lines of five, seven, and five syllables (5,
7, 5) or 17 syllables in all.

The 5/7/5 rule was made up for school children to
understand and learn this type of poetry.
Write this in your book.

Made of three lines of poetry, 17 syllables or
LESS.

While watching the video look for the answers to these
questions:
What are the two Japanese words Ray talks about. Say
what they are and mean.
Reflect on one of the haikus Ray uses. What does it
mean? Copy the Haiku into your book.

sentences explaing why)
Now make your own!
Follow the 5/7/5 syllable structure of the Haiku
create 3 of your own poems.

Create one about a season (Winter, Summer,
Autumn or Spring)
Create one about nature
And then create a free choice poem!

Write these in your books.

Once you have made 3, or if you are
struggling ask Ms Hayes or Mrs Inglis for
help!
