1) What do you mean by words stress?

We are going to stress a part of the word. It means that we give


special attention to part of a word and for doing that we need to do
three basic things we are going to make the stress part.
We stress vowel sound not consonant sounds. That means in word
stress, we make a vowel sound louder, longer and at a higher pitch.

2) What are the characteristics of the stressed syllable? Give an
example.
Louder
Longer
At a higher pitch
Example:
Beautiful
(LOUDER) (softer)


LONGER shorter

Higher at the begining

Lower at the second part

3) What kind of words are stressed
We stress voowel sounds not consonant sounds. That means in word
stress, we make a vowel louder, longer, and at a higher pitch.


4) Why is word stress so important?
Becouse If you put the word stress on the wrong part of the word
you can be misunderstood.

5) How do you know how to stress the words?
There are two ways: by looking in the dictionary and looking at the
phonetic transcription and then show you which syllable stress.
Or by listening how are people using the word and as you listen you
would learn how to use the word correct for yourself.
