Mackinac Trip

grade trip
May/June 2015
Why/When?
The 4
th
grade Social Studies curriculum in Troy focuses
on Michigan.
Students learn about the geography, history, economy
and industry
Trip will take place in May or June of 2015. Dates will
be confirmed once down payment is received.
This will be a 2 day/1 night trip during the school week.
Itinerary (Day 1)
Day 1
Meet at school around 7:00am to
depart.
Bring sack lunch for bus ride. 270 Miles
approximately 4 hours to Mackinaw
City
Arrive in Mackinaw City approximately
at 11:00am
Visit the Historic Mill Creek Discovery
Park
Tour Old Point Mackinac Lighthouse
Check into our Mackinaw City Hotel (3
star, centrally located)
Dinner (included) in downtown
Mackinaw City
Beachside Bonfire
Back to hotel to sleep

Mackinaw City (Day 1)
Historic Mill Creek State Park a nature preserve, and historic site
in Mackinaw City. Participate in the sawpit method of lumber production.
Immerse yourself in nature trails and interactive exhibits. Climb a 50-
foot tower.
Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse constructed in 1892 on
the Straits of Mackinac. Climb the tower and take in the
spectacular views of Mackinac Island the the Mackinac
bridge.
Mackinaw City (Day 1)
Check into hotel following Lighthouse tour
Dinner in downtown Mackinaw City
Beachside bonfire with smores!
Return to hotel for the night

Hotel Accommodations
3 Star Mackinaw City Hotel
4 people per room (including at least one adult in each
room)
Hired Security Guard stationed in the hallway
Continental Breakfast in the morning.
Itinerary (Day 2)
7:00am Breakfast at the hotel (included)
Visit Colonial Michilimackinac
Board the Mackinac Island Ferry
Arrive at Mackinac Island and depart on a 90 minute
horse drawn carriage ride
Lunch at Fort Mackinac (included)
Visit Fort Mackinac
Take Ferry back to the mainland & depart on motor
coach back to Martell.
Mackinaw City (Day 2)
Colonial Michilimackinac Step into the 1770s at this reconstructed
fort and fur trading outpost. Watch Redcoats fire muskets and
cannons, smell bread baking & meet Colonial Villagers.
Mackinac Island Ferry Board ferry
in Mackinaw City and enjoy the 20
minute ride to the island.
Horse Drawn Carriage Ride
Upon arriving at the Island
the students will depart on a
90 minute sight seeing tour
around the island.
Fort Mackinac Lunch and visit. Constructed by the British
during the American Revolution. With 14 original
buildings you will enjoy informative and interactive
exhibits.
Ferry Ride back to Mackinaw City.
Meet with our Motor Coach and return to Martell
around 7:00pm (Dinner this evening is not included)

The total cost will be around $200 per child, this
includes
Motor Coach transportation
3 Meals (dinner, breakfast and lunch)
1 night stay at Mackinaw city hotel
All fees for activities listed
Ferry Ride
Carriage Ride
All taxes
Private nighttime security at hotel
Additional Cost
Sack lunch for first day
Any souvenirs
Possible dinner on the way home


Chaperones
We are looking for 1 chaperone for every 3 children
(approximately 25 chaperones)
There will be at least 1 chaperone in every hotel room
(4 person occupancy)
Chaperones will pay their own fee (~$200 per
chaperone)
Q & A
This is not a required trip (students who opt not to go
will still attend school those 2 days.)
If there is enough interest in fund raising to help lower
the cost we will put together a parent committee.
Payment will be collected in 2 installments ($100 in
October and the rest 45 days prior to trip (March/April
2015)
