ABCs of Evaluation
Before attempting to complete this assignment, be sure that you have read (and
reread!) this weeks lecture. Be sure to email me at mackles@tacomacc.edu with
any questions.
Remember from this weeks lecture that there are four standard criteria for evaluation:
authority, currency, point-of-view (or bias), and accuracy.
Your assignment:
1) In your own words, explain how youd evaluate a source for authority:
Research the author, see if he/she is a subject matter expert.
2) In your own words, explain how youd evaluate a source for currency:
Find out why they are writing about this subject.
3) In your own words, explain how youd evaluate a source for point-of view (or bias):
You would read about the source which is located under the about us tab.
4) In your own words, explain how youd evaluate a source for accuracy:
Why are we doing this assignment?
1. To identify the four standard criteria for evaluation (authority, currency,
point-of-view (or bias), accuracy).
Search other articles to see if information is accurate ( things that repeat themselves)
5) If I am searching for background information about the authors credentials, what
criteria for evaluation am I using? Authority
6) If I am comparing the information in my source to information found in other sources,
what criteria for evaluation am I using? Accuracy
7) Can you think of any time when the bias (or point-of-view) of a source might not
matter so much?

When the subject is dead/ or old.
