Name of Assessment: Choral Improvement Test

Formal Summative

Formal Summative:
1. The teacher will score the assessment by using the rubric to mark whether the assessment
was completed satisfactorily.
2. The data consists of 2 audio recordings; one recorded of the first sight reading of each piece
and one recorded that week of the concert of which the song is to be performed at.
3. The teacher will use the data to see the progress of the choir in memorizing the piece of
music while using correct vocal technique and musicality appropriate to the song. The
teacher can use this information not only to assess the work the students have been doing
but also the effectiveness of the teacher.
a. Proficiency is determined by a rating system from 1 to 4 (1=Needs Improvement,
2=Sufficient, 3=Good, 4=Excellent), in 3 areas (Memorization, Musicality, Vocal
Technique). The choir needs to have scored mostly 3s to be satisfactory.
b. It will be a part of the test grade after the concert is performed.
4. Sample document attached.
5. This is one assessments students cannot track their scores on paper. They can however have
an idea as to how well they are learning the music in class.
6. The student should know whether they have passed the assessment because the teacher
will tell the student how they did and what they need to work on.
7. Blueprint attached.

Choral Improvement Test
The choir will be recorded at the first sight reading of each piece and at one or two of
the last performances of each song during the week of the concert. The better of the two
recordings during concert week will be chosen for comparison with the first sight reading
recording. The teacher will grade both recordings based upon musicality, vocal technique, and
memorization. The following rubric will be used for grading:

The teacher will informally assess the students during each rehearsal so that she will set the students up
for success in the Choral Improvement test.
