The document provides instructions for converting a virtual machine (VM) from an older server to a new VMware vCenter server using the VMware Standalone Converter. It is a VM to VM (V2V) conversion. The key steps are to:
1. Open the VMware Standalone Converter on the new server and provide login details for the source ESX server.
2. Select the VM to migrate, which must first be powered off before conversion.
3. Provide login details for the destination vCenter server and select a folder, cluster, ESX server, and datastore for the migrated VM.

Task to convert a VM running on older S01809D server to new S00977D VC. It would be a V2V conversion. Steps 1. Open vmware Standalone converter from 00977D servers desktop shortcut.
2. Click on Convert Machine, and then give the source machines parent ESX servers login details.
3. As soon as you login on the above step, it would list out all the VMs running on that ESX server. Choose the one you want to migrate in our case its S02079D. When you click on the VM, you wont be able to proceed as Next button is disabled that is because of the fact that the machine is running right now first well have to power down the VM in order to migrate.
4. After the VM has been powered OFF, repeat the above steps again, and this time the converter will try to grab all the VM details.
5. Give the Destination VCENTER details use your FTID for login -
6. From the hierarchy, choose the folder where you want this VM to be placed. Ideally this location will be handed over to you by requestor of the machine migration.
7. Choose the Cluster/ESX Server & Datastore to use in this window make sure your VM will fit the datastore you are selecting.
8. You can modify the post migration options if you want like installing VMware tools if required, else just press Next, check the summary page, and click on Finish to start the conversion.
9. The progress of conversion can be seen on the main converter window.
10. Do the following post migration checks when migration completed a. Network Configuration b. Vmware tools upgrade if required c. Rename the machine on OLD VC to say Do NOT Power ON ( On an average 60GB machine would take approx. 2 hours for whole maintenance window )
