Task 1A: Analyise the front cover of a magazine

Main Image:
The biggest image on the page,
a mid shot of Dizzee Rascal
with wide eyes looking straight
into the camera directing the
audience. His facial expressions
also highlight the mood of the
magazine, as he has got a big
smile on his face, it makes the
mood of the magazine fun and
enjoyable.
Header: Directs the reader to a
page that includes important
enjoyable information for the
reader, something exciting
that the magazine believe the
audience will be keen to read.
Footer: Summarises the main bands
and artists that will feature in the
magazine. It is ambiguous to say that it
focusses on a certain genre so there is a
mixture. This may be because they
want to widen their target audience.
Masthead: NME clearly
stands out at the top of
the page, uses a colour
scheme that makes it
seeable to the audience.
Uses the colour red to
connotate the love and
passion you should have
for the magazine.
Coverline: Names other bands who feature
in ther magazine, big, successful names
that will entice the audience into reading it.
Barcode, date and price: All
essential elements in order for
the magazine company to sell
copies. The barcode is always
hidden and fairly small to not
take up much space on the
magazine. This element is so
the item can be scanned in
order for it to be purchased.
The price informs the buyer
how much the issue is.
Main sell line: anchors
the main image so that
people know who the
man in the main image
is. The font is also big
and bold and it includes
shadow to make it stand
out a lot. Also includes a
quote he has said to give
the audience an insight
of what hes about.
Puff: Includes the
news of the week
which will also tempt
the audience into
reading the magazine.
Informs the audience
about the weekly
news.
