Education is a right that all children should have attainable to them, no
matter what country they live in. That is the goal of the UN Global Education Initiative, to make ensure that every child around the world is able to go to school and to improve the quality of learning for all. Japan is actually doing a great job at following through with this initiative. Japan actually has one of the worlds best- educated populations. The status of education in Japan is very up to par. After WWII, the U.S reformed the Japanese education system is resemble theirs, which was that there is 6 years in elementary school, 3 years in junior high, 3 years in high school, and 4 years in university. Even though only the first 9 years of schooling is compulsory 98% of students go onto high school and about 46% graduate and go onto university. (School Life in Japan) A reason why many countries dont have proper schooling for children is because they dont have the funds for it. If a school doesnt have the proper funding, it becomes difficult to give the students the education they need. administration staff and not very necessary staff members, they hire just a principal, vice-principal, janitor, and nurse. Most of the funding for education goes to the teachers and students. In May of 2010, Japan was finally able to drop tuition fees for students in secondary school which used to be mandatory. This allowed more students to continue with school even if the didnt come from well off families. Japan compared to the U.S actually spends very little money on educational institutions, but is still considered to have one of the worlds best- educated populations. With education being so attainable and affordable to families, more children are able to go to school in Japan. Which is one of the main goals of the UN Global Education Initiative. Also, with most of the funding for education going to the teachers and students, schools can ensure that teachers are well trained so that the quality of learning is up to par for the children. Japan is on the right track to fulfilling the goals set out in the Education Initiative.
