, review selected papers in the January 2014 issue of the IEEE Journal of Solid State Circuits,
volume 49, issue 1. This issue contains the best papers from the 2013 IEEE Solid State
Circuits Conference (ISSCC), which is the world premiere conference in its field. At thi s
conference industry announces its new products and semiconductor technologies. In this
issue papers were selected based on peer review in the energy efficient digital, processors
and high-performance digital, memory, technology directions and sensors, imagers and
medical sections of the conference. Hence, these papers represent the state-of-the art in the
semiconductor industry in their respective areas.

The papers that I have selected for this exercise are included in the attached Excel Spread
Sheet file HW1_2014_Exercise1.xls. I dont expect you to read any of these papers to gain
deep knowledge of their content - unless you wish to do so. The purpose is to scan and
selectively read sections of these papers to fill in the columns of the spreadsheet
HW1_2014_Exercise1.xls.
