TH ANNUAL HOIDAY AND KWANZAA MARKETPLACE Celebrate, shop, and enjoy. HAMPTON, VA., (Nov. 20, 2013) On Dec. 6 and Dec. 7, the Hampton University Museum will hold the 18 th annual Holiday and Kwanzaa Marketplace. The weekend will be filled with many events for the whole family, both young and old.
Starting Dec. 6 at 10 a.m., the Marketplace will kick off the weekends events where people are able to purchase holiday and Kwanzaa gifts from the Museum Shop specializing in both African and African-American art gifts. Gifts range from hand crafted items including jewelry and art. The event will continue with an evening celebration beginning at 5:30 p.m. which will include special holiday music and art activities for children between the ages of 3-10 years old in the Curiosity Room, sponsored by the Greater Williamsburg Womens Association and the drumming of M & M (a mother and son drum group). Visitors will be available to attend the Marketplace until 7 p.m. While admission to this event is free, guests are encouraged to donate gently used clothing items for women that will be given to Transitions Batter Womens Shelter.
On the following day from 1-4 p.m., there will be a holiday and Kwanzaa Jazz Brunch and Market place. The admission fee is $10 for adults and children 10 years-old and under is $8. Visitors are encouraged to view the Changing Exhibition, The Dianne Whitfield Locke & Carnell Locke Collection: Building on Tradition (Oct.12-May 10) and other permanent galleries, listen to jazz with Osmosis and HU Student entertainment sponsored by the HUM Biggers Circle, and enjoy do it yourself art activities that focus on the celebration of Kwanzaa for children between the ages of 3-10 years old, all while delighting in heavy hors doeurves, desserts, and light beverages.
