1. Intro: T introduces texture. S feel several objects and describe how they feel.
2. Direct Instruction (I DO): T demonstrates how to create texture with tissue paper
by bunching it around a pencil.
3. Guided Practice (We DO): T & S practice bunching tissue around a pencil
together. T demos how to make a small dot of glue and place tissue on the dot of
glue. T&S practice making a small dot of glue together. T & S practice bunching
and attaching tissue to glue dot.
4. Independent Practice (You DO): S continue to attach tissue to glue on their own.
5. Lesson Closure: S review types of texture.

Paper Flowers, tissue squares, glue, unsharpened pencils.

Formative: S recall key facts about the Day of the Dead. S identify portraits as a picture of a person
(usually from the shoulders up). S create a decorative day of the dead skeleton portrait.

1. Intro: S review day of the dead, T provides the definition of a portrait. T shows
finished project and explains that today we will begin to add white to our skeleton
portrait.
2. Direct Instruction (I DO): T demos how to use chalk to color in skeleton and how
to shapes and how to blend oil pastels using a q-tip
3. Guided Practice (We DO): T & S together practice using chalk to color in
skeleton and to bled oil pastels with a q-tip.
4. Independent Practice (You DO): S work on their own to finish coloring skeleton
and blending pastels.
5. Lesson Closure: S walk around the room and look at everyone elses beautiful
artwork!

shapes creating the patterns shown.
2. Direct Instruction (I DO): T demonstrates how to create a pattern by repeating a
shape over and over using finger paint.
3. Guided Practice (We DO): T & S practice making a pattern using the same line
repeated over and over. T & S practice making another pattern using a line then a
dot and repeating.
4. Independent Practice (You DO): S continue to make patterns on their own and
experiment with finger paint.

pattern in the correct order.
4. Independent Practice (You DO): S work on their own to create a decorative
border for their skeleton portrait.
