Course Description:
This course introduces students to responsible nurturing and basic applications of
child development theory with children from infancy through age six. Areas of
study include parenthood decisions, child care issues, prenatal development and
care, and development and care of infants, toddlers, and children three through
six. Emphasis is on responsibilities of parents, readiness for parenting, and the
influence parents have on children while providing care and guidance. Art, English
language arts and science are reinforced. Work-based learning strategies
appropriate for this course include service learning and job shadowing.
Apprenticeship and Cooperative education is not available for this course. Family,
Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) competitive events, community
service, and leadership activities provide the opportunity to apply essential
standards and workplace readiness skills through authentic experiences.

Class Expectations: Be Prompt. Be Punctual, Be prepared for class, No food or drinks in the
classroom, Be Polite. Respect the classroom instructor, yourself as well as others. Be Positive.

Integrity Policy: I expect for all students to up hold high morals in my classroom at all times.

Attendance: Students must be on time to class. In order to be counted present you must be in your
seat when the bell rings. Tardies will be handled as outlined in the Rolesville High School Tardy
Policy.

Student Expectations: Students must maintain an environment conducive to serious study and
respect. Every student is expected to behave in a socially acceptable and responsible manner at all

Classroom Participation: Individuals are expected to participate throughout the semester.

Time cards are due on the last day of the month. Please check your time cards for the due date.

Collaborative projects: Projects will be assigned to go along with the units of study: many of them
will be presented to the class. Students must present their project on their assigned day.

Homework: Homework will be assigned periodically throughout the semester. Homework must be
turned in and completed on time. Homework is not available for makeup, unless there is an absence.

Food: There will be no gum, food or beverages in the classroom.

Electronic Devices: All electronic devices should be put away during class. Please adhere to
Rolesville High School electronic device policy.
Bathroom, Locker: Please do not ask to go to the bathroom, locker, office or use the telephone.
