Altman, Meyer Sign Womens Equality Pledge

Receive endorsement from NARAL President

Democratic Senate candidate Elaine Altman and Democratic Assembly candidate Steve
Meyer hosted a press conference at which they signed the Womens Equality Pledge and accepted
the endorsement of NARAL New York from its president, Andrea Miller. The Womens Equality
Pledge is an initiative launched by Governor Cuomo and Lieutenant Governor candidate Kathy
Hochul that seeks to secure build support for, and secure passage of, the ten point Womens
Equality Act.

Elaine Altman said, Careers for women which are punctuated by lower pay and sexual
harassment subject those of us who work and raise a family to unfair pressure and harassment
which destroys self-esteem and potential for career advancement. Women should have the same
protections and equal pay as their worker counterparts. I am proud to have received the
endorsement by both NARAL and Planned Parenthood.

Steve Meyer said, Its hard to believe that we still need to address womens equality in
2014 and harder still to understand why our current representative has failed to do so. Theres no
reason for women to earn less than men for the same work and Western New York families
deserve a representative who will stand up for whats right for women and address this issue
immediately.

Andrea Miller, President of NARAL New York said, "Pro-choice voters in District 61 need
true allies who will fight back against attacks on access to the full range of reproductive health
care. Elaine Altman has demonstrated her commitment to advancing commonsense, pro-women
legislation like the Women's Equality Act. NARAL Pro-Choice New York is proud to endorse Elaine
Altman for state Senate.

Steve Meyer is a champion of women's equality, and he understands that you can't pick and
choose which rights women deserve. NARAL Pro-Choice New York is proud to endorse Steve
Meyer for state Assembly to represent the pro-choice values of Western New York."

In addition to the support of NARAL New York, Altman and Meyer also announced that they
had received the endorsement of Planned Parenthood Advocates of New York.

The people of the 146th Assembly district and the 61st Senate district need state legislators who
will support the essential services that our Planned Parenthood health centers provide and that
our patients both need and deserve, said. We are proud to endorse Steve Meyer and Elaine
Altman and we strongly support their candidacies because they understand the importance of
access to the full range of reproductive health care services, as protected by the Womens Equality
Act.

Both groups stand firmly behind the passage of the full Womens Equality Act and support
candidates who are committed to protecting a womans right to make her own healthcare
decisions.

The Womens Equality Act would update New York laws to address discrimination and
other serious issues affecting women. The law would crack down on pay inequity, sexual
harassment, family status discrimination and pregnancy discrimination in the workplace.
Additionally it would strengthen laws related to human trafficking, domestic violence and reaffirm
a woman's right to control her own personal and private reproductive health decisions.
