Greek and Roman

Greek and Roman The Greek and Roman period was long with wars and dividing up the country. They
were able to have the first alphabet, architecture which is used all over the world, and the Roman
architects built aqueducts to bring in water. The Minoan civilization was the first civilization region of
Greece. This civilization is credit with how to make bronze. In the Bronze Age people started building
large cities with fortifications, since they were on the sea they needed protection from attackers. During
this time Homer wrote theIliad and the Odyssey. Did you know that the first Olympic Games were held
in 776 B.C.. The Golden Age brought forth the greatest artwork and that was in 461-431 B.C..
Alexander the Great was a leader that conqueror the Persian Empire. He used Macedonians and Greeks
men to do this. He started his war in 334 B.C., within ten years he had conqueror an area the size of the
United States. Alexander the Great started Greek cities, where he went. When Alexander the Great
started these cities, he changed history. Due to the way he sat up cities Greek became a world culture.
After Alexander the Great many cities took things into their own hands and became independent. The
cities would send delegates to meetings. This was the first steps to a representative democracy. The
period after Alexander the Greats death this was called the Hellenistic Age.
In 197 B.C. the romans attacked Macedonia and Greece. It didnt take much work from the Romans to
conqueror them. For some reason unknown a year later the Romans left Greece. The Romans called this
the Freedom of Greece, well that didnt last long and the Romans were back. The cities would not
follow the rules set by the Romans. In 167 B.C. the Romans returned and took over Macedonia again.
There was several years of prosperity for Greece and then the fighting began again with Delos. Even
through all of this fighting, Greek still spread throughout the world. Even the Romans started adopting
the Greek ways of life. The Roman orators writings were spreading Greek traditions. Poets carried on
the culture in their work, Cicero, Horace, and Virgil.
