BIOGEN IDEC COMMUNITY LAB FACT SHEET

Overview
The Community Lab is a state-of-the-art, real-world facility where students engage in hands-on biotechnology
experiments and interact with Biogen Idec employees. Though the Community Lab, Biogen Idec is demonstrating
our strong commitment to promoting science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education.
The Biogen Idec Community Lab, which is considered the gold standard in the industry, features a dedicated
laboratory classroom where students engage in activities developed in close collaboration with local public school
systems. The Lab offers students these eye-opening opportunities through two primary programs: Class Visits and
Advanced Summer Sessions.

Mission
As part of our commitment to science education, we open our doors to local students so they can make a
breakthrough of their own: Science is exciting! The Community Lab mission is to:
Promote student interest in science and science-related careers
Increase awareness and understanding of the biotechnology industry and careers
Increase science literacy of students and general public
Empower people to be more comfortable and confident evaluating scientific information
Be a resource for the community


Goal of the Community Lab
Excite, transform, and empower students to become the discoverers of tomorrow. Bringing students on-site
exposes them to the real and exciting world of science, which can spark students interest in science and other
biotech-related careers as well.
