We may only need 2 more votes! Two years ago on Dec. of 2012, the United States Senate fell just 5 votes short of the two-thirds required to ratify the CRPD. On Monday, former Kansas Senator Bob Dole told reporter Judy Woodruff on PBS Newshour that he believed the Senate is 2 votes shy of the required 67 votes to ratify CRPD. After the election during the lame duck congress is our last chance to have the treaty ratified during this Congress and maybe for a long time to come. We need to convince at least two more senators to commit to voting for the ratification.
ACTION NEEDED:
1. Schedule an in-state meeting with your Senator during this recess (between now and Nov. 12) or talk to them during a public event, e.g. voting polls, town hall meetings, local establishments. 2. Call their Washington office and state that you are a constituent and you want your senator to support ratification (capitol switchboard number is 202-224-3121) 3. For more information, see AUCD's talking points on the treaty.
Please contact all of your Senators; however, if the following Senators are yours, please make a special effort to do so: Richard Burr (R-NC), Jerry Moran (R-KS), John Isakson (R-GA), Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), Rob Portman (R-OH), Roy Blunt (R-MO)
Majority Leader Reid (NV) ask him to schedule a floor vote before the end of this Congress Chairman Menendez (NJ) please urge the Senate majority leader to hold a floor vote on ratification before the end of this Congress
