NORTHWEST COAST
They also built long boats to hunt seal, whale, and
salmon at sea.
The Northwest Coast region also had many trees, so
the people used wood to make their homes, baskets,
and clothing.
SOUTHWEST
The people of the Southwest build adobe homes to
protect them from the summer heat and winter cold.
To protect their bodies from the sun, they wore
clothes made of cotton that they grew, spun, and
wove into cloth.
GREAT PLAINS
The Plains people followed the buffalo, so they built
collapsible / moveable homes (tipis).
They used buffalo hides to make their shields,
clothing, bedding, homes, and many other things
they needed to survive on the Plains.
SOUTHEAST
The Southeast region had a long growing season, so
they relied on crops like corn, beans, squash,
pumpkins, and sunflowers for most of their food.
The people of the Southeast wore simple, short skirts
made from deerskin to stay cool.
The people living in swampy areas lived in raised up
homes to prevent flooding.
