News from 2/3A.
Year 2/3 are looking forward to a busy term of learning. We have been busy exploring the relationship between the Earth, Moon and the Sun as part of a science Unit of work called Night and Day. As part of creating understanding about the movement of Earth in relation to the sun we spent last Thursday collecting data about shadows. We recorded the length and direction of the shadows. There was some amazement from all students regarding how different the shadows were every hour and how quickly they moved. Check out the difference between the 9.15 shadow and the blue line tracing the 1.15 shadow. The 2.15 shadow was actually longer than an hour earlier. Some comments from the students following the experiment:
I was surprised the shadow got smaller. Tyannah
I thought that the shadow would move and get smaller and it did. Riley
I found out that the shadows can move throughout the day. Poppy
I was surprised at 2.15 when the shadow was longer than an hour before. I thought it would keep getting shorter. Lachlan
I found out the planets mover every minute. Ethan
I was surprised the shadows move direction. Nick
I found out that the shadows got smaller throughout the day and began to get longer after recess. Jack
I found out that the shadows moved and got shorter through the morning. Owen
I predicted that the shadows moved and got smaller throughout the morning. Breeanna
I found out that through the morning the shadow gets smaller. Ryvrr
I was surprised that the shadow moved so much. Zoe Science in action in the carpark! 3/4L News.
3/4L have had a busy term already! In science we have been busy learning about the sun, moon and Earth and how the earth spins in its axis to cause night and day. We have looked at shadows and how they move during the day, we made sundials out of cardboard and pencils and discovered another way to tell the time without a watch!
In literacy, we have already completed a mini unit of work based on The Lost Thing by Shaun Tan. We have practiced using descriptive writing to describe the main character or Lost Thing from the book and we made artworks that were inspired by the illustrations in the text.
Maths time has been busy as usual and last week we learnt about position. In small groups, we hid treasure around the school and used compasses on the iPads and coordinates to draw a map and write directions for other groups to find our treasure.
We enjoyed having our grandparents visit our classroom last Friday as it gave us a good chance to show them some of our work! We are looking forward to all the end of year celebrations towards the end of this term. It will be a great way to top of what has been a fantastic year in 3/4L! More disco photos Thank you to all the grandparents who attended last weeks grandparents day it was really nice to see so many people in the school sharing their stories of what school was like when they were kids. Interesting to hear about the trenches that were dug in the playgrounds and the like! Grandparents Day...
