What does it mean?

Simplify in a nutshell means to shorten, make easier or to summarise something. There are
many things we simplify in maths such as simplifying equations (4+5) x (3+7) = 9 x 10. Or we
even simplify fractions 3/9 = 1/3.
Why do we do it?
To transfer equations that look hard into something we can work out easily.
How do we do it?
Simplifying Equations:
1. Break up the sum.
E.g. (4+5) x (3+7) to |(4+5)| x |(3+7)|
2. Work out each part separately.
E.g. 4+5 = 9
3+7 = 10
3. Work out simplified sum.
E.g. 9 x 10 = 90
Simplifying Fractions:
1. See what number can be divided into the Denominator and the Numerator
E.g. 8/24 both numbers can be divided by: 1, 2, 4 and 8.
2. Do the division.
E.g. 8 divided by 4 = 2
24 divided by 4 = 6
3. Keep doing it till you get the lowest fraction.
E.g. 2 divided by 2 = 1
6 divided by 2 = 3
