Previous studies
A study has been conducted by Hasnaa Kechoudn in 2009. She has conducted the
research entitled Students Approach to the Translation of the Present Perfect from English
into Arabic. Based on her result of research, it was found that the concept of present perfect in
English is different from the one of Arabic. So, Hasnaa investigated the translation approach of
the present perfect from English to Arabic. While this study focuses on comparing the present
tense in English and Arabic.
Another study has been investigated by Edi (2007) has conducted the research entitles:
The comparison of tenses of English and those of Arabic. Based on his result of research, it was
found that in general all tenses in English are different from tenses in Arabic, especially in usage
of those tenses. The study compared those differences of all tenses in English and arabic.
There are some differences between the previous study conducted by Edi and the present
study. In his study, Edi investigated the comparison of all tenses in English and Arabic in the
context of usage. Meanwhile, the present study only compared the present tense in English and
Arabic in the context of usage and concept. Furthermore, there is a similarity between Edis study
and the present study. It can be seen that both of the study investigated the comparison of tenses
in English and Arabic.
