    Ofer Ashkenazi responds to Rafi Rotem's request for documentation of his appointment as Rotem's public defender. Ashkenazi states that he never represented himself as being appointed by the public defender's office to represent Rotem. Ashkenazi had asked to meet with Rotem to discuss possible representation, but Rotem refused. Ashkenazi was also informed by the district public defender's office that Rotem had requested to meet with the district public defender before a new public defender was appointed. Ashkenazi suggests that Rotem communicate directly with the public defender's office regarding any matters relating to the appointment of a public defender.

    Mr Rotem Shalom,
    I have never represented myself as one, who had been appointed by the Public
    Defender's office to represent you. In our telephone conversation I asked that
    we schedule a meeting to examine the possibility that I would represent you,
    but you refused to meet me.
    Also, as I have been informed by the District Public Defender's office, I have
    understood that you requested to meet the District Public Defender prior to the
    appointment of a new Public Defender.
    I suggest that from now on you communicate in any matter, pertaining to the
    appointment of a Public Defender to the Public Defender's office.
