Phase Description
Analysis
The target audience for this unit is FET Phase (Grade 10-12) learners at school and the topic is Sex Education which is part of the Life
Orientation subject. The reason is to offer teachers and learners an alternative for teaching Sex Education by means of Technology
together with the Internet. The Unit will represent the content needed to be covered by the teacher. The teacher becomes the
facilitator and needs to monitor the content. Delivery options include readings, quizzes, surveys, online tests, videos, podcasts to name
a few. Forums and private chat between teacher and learners will be used. The learners will need basic knowledge on sexual health
(body parts, names of a few STDs and contraceptives). Textbooks are used as well. For this unit, teacher and learners need a
computer/tablet/laptop, internet access and basic computer literacy skills.

Design
A unique LMS will be used called Blackboard Course Sites Open Source. The content will comprise of different topics and issues within
Sex Education and will be presented on the LMS in different folders. Each folder will consist of various learning strategies (reading,
subject matter analyses, media, assessment instruments, interactive tasks, videos, etc. The LMS will offer tutorials for those who are
unfamiliar of the navigation. The lessons presented will be in chronological order (i.e. they must be completed in numerical order). The
objective of the unit is to assist teachers in teaching Sex Ed. The content will consist of and cover the outcomes stipulated in the CAPS
curriculum for the FET Phase.
Development
Once the content has been uploaded, all content and interactive elements will be trialled and tested. Any mishaps will be dealt with
through consultation with lecturers.
Implementation
A training session will take place where learners and teachers will be shown how to use the Unit Modal and any questions or related
queries will be dealt with.
Evaluation
Contact details will be provided in case of a mishap or technical error that needs to be rectified on my side. Each part of the unit will
have a feedback option where the user will be able to comment or make suggestions for further improvement.
