CLASSROOM MATERIALS
Pencils, erasers, glue sticks and pencil sharpeners have been provided for your childs use while in French class. These items should
be returned to the orange and green baskets at the end of each school day and are shared between both classes. Unfortunately,
these items often go missing and are not returned to the baskets. As a result, our supply has become increasingly low even though it
has been replenished on several occasions. It would be extremely helpful if you could send your child to school with their own pencil,
eraser and pencil sharpener so that they may feel prepared for the learning day.

PICTURES
Your child should have received their individual school photos. Please remember to include a payment and/or return the photos to
your childs teacher by the due date.

FRENCH NEWS
Students will continue to identify sociolinguistic conventions associated with a variety of social situations in French-speaking
communities, and use them appropriately in social interactions (e.g., standard introductory phrases to give personal information such
as Jhabite ). Students will identify reading comprehension strategies and use them before, during, and after reading to
understand a variety of texts. Verbs of preference such as aimer and prfrer will be modeled for students and they will be
encouraged to use them in their writing (e.g., when expressing opinions). In social studies, students will continue to explore traditions
and celebrations within their own families and the communities to which they belong. In science, students will begin exploring the
characteristics of water and will be investigating the stages of the water cycle.

ENGLISH NEWS
In science, students will conduct experiments to investigate the properties of solids and liquids and will focus on procedural writing.
In math, students will focus on graphing, two-dimensional shapes, addition & subtraction to 18, and place value. Students will
develop their media literacy skills by creating persuasive posters.
