Root Cause Analysis
Brooklyn has been working as an RN on a progressive med/surg floor for
the past 5 years. She has 2 small children at home, but works the night shift
4 days a week and often works weekends as well. She rarely ever exercises
and often skips breaks during her shift because she believes the patients
well-being is more important than her own. Today she gets to work and is
already a little upset because she knows she will be missing her daughters
first dance recital tomorrow due to work. She also didnt have enough time
to pack a lunch because she was helping her other daughter with homework
so she grabbed McDonalds on her way to work for later during her shift.

Brooklyn has been assigned a rather difficult patient that happens to be
quite a bit overweight. While she is in the room doing an assessment the
patient asks to use the restroom. Brooklyn is in a hurry so instead of asking
for help to assist the patient out of bed she does it herself and ends up
hurting her back in the process. She misses work the next day and is laid up
in bed with back pain, which makes her even more upset because she had to
miss work and her daughters dance recital. To console her feelings,
Brooklyn spends the day eating ice cream and watching soap operas.
