Instructional Questions: How often do your students receive social studies/science instruction? All of fourth grade is only allotted 30 minutes a day for both social studies and science. I switch month to month. So this month we are doing science but next month we will do social studies. Are you satisfied with the amount of time that you currently allot for social studies/science instruction? Explain. No, students should have more time but they are not tested in this area so it is not the most important focus for me. I am so pressured to make sure they are passing EOGs. What social studies and science topics/units will be studied during the second week of my clinical experience? What are possible goals/objectives I could address for my lessons? Do you have any instructional resources that would support these goals/objectives? We will be talking about rocks and minerals. If you could teach a lesson on the three different types of rocks. I will give you a packet of information to help you. Classroom Management Questions: Tell me about the classroom community. What are the class rules? How is student behavior monitored? In what ways is positive behavior reinforced? In what ways are negative behaviors prevented? Tell me about the consequences for negative behavior. Our school uses a program called SOAR, which stands for Safe, Orderly, Act Respectful and Responsible. All teachers in the school pass out soar tickets to students who are following these rules. The students can turn them in to be put in a drawing to win things. I use a check mark chart and each table works as a team to get checks. When I catch them on task or behaving they can get a check and at the end of the day I add the checks to and ongoing list. Once a table group gets so many they can get candy, then after more they can pick an icon, then after more a dance party and so on.
