Science Corner

This Quarter our Scholars will be

exploring Ratios, Rates, Integers and
Algebraic Expressions and Equations.

1. Students receive a weekly

homework log that lists the
homework for the week. The log
requires a parent signature each night
to ensure that families are aware of
what skills, ideas, and concepts 6th
grade scholars will be practicing each
week.

Our Eagle Scientists will focus on

Energy in the 2nd Quarter. We will
work on understanding the
characteristics of energy transfer
and interactions of matter and
energy. By the end of the quarter,
students should be able to answer
questions like: Why is the sky
blue? Which materials conduct
heat? What is heat?

Be sure to remind your Scholar to log

into Compass Learning each day. This
powerful computer based program is
a way for students to experience math
tutorials at home online. The URL for
Compass Learning is:
www.compasslearningodyssey.com

2. This quarter we will continue our

study of story plot and character
development. As a culminating
activity to this unit, the sixth grade
will be traveling to Childrens Theater
to see the stage play Scrooge! The
cost for this trip will be $8.00 per
student. Check your students work
folder for more details and payment
information.
3. We are incorporating two
powerful communication tools this
year to help parents stay in the
loop with school happenings. If you
have not already done so, please sign
up for Class Dojo and
Remind. These messages go
directly to your phone text message,
tablet or computer. Visit our weebly
to learn how to sign up for both.

Social Studies Adventures

We are exploring the very
beginning from the Paleolithic Era
and the earliest societies through
the Neolithic Era and the first
civilizations: Mesopotamia, Egypt,
Indus River Valley, Ancient China,
and African Empires. The big
question for November is: Why
did each early civilization emerge
and develop at their specific
location?
