Fillmore Friday Focus

Vol. #9

NewsFlash
Every Thursday at Fillmore High School
is College and Career Day. The idea behind
College and Career day is to promote awareness
and to bring to the forefront post secondary
education and career possibilities. By wearing
related apparel, opportunities for meaningful
discussions between students and staff have
surfaced. Sometimes changing perspective can
be as simple as changing your clothes.

Experience can be the best teacher. An
experienced teacher adds to the experience. A
great example of this is illustrated by what
happened after school the day of the solar
eclipse. Outside the main office, Tim Waddell
engaged a few students in a discussion about
the solar eclipse that was taking place at the
time. As interest grew, more and more
students gathered to witness the solar sage at
work. He showed the students a pinhole
apparatus he had made that allowed one to
safely view the eclipse. He also showed the
group of students how to use their hands to see
the eclipse. The enthusiasm and fervor grew to
a passionate peak and I dare say that this could
inspire one of those in attendance to become
the next Carl Sagan.

During the Fall Break, students and staff took

some much needed time off. However, athletes
and coaches continued to grind away at their
opponents. The JV and Varsity Football teams
were victorious over an inspired Rio Hondo
team. After an initial struggle both teams won
handily over the Keres.

Volleyball played on Thursday during the break

and continued to improve and battle to the end
of each match.
